In Ancient Egypt, everything which above (on high) was identical to that
below, and the cycle of life beyond our world was based on the model of
the Nile. Pet was the name given to the sky or heavens. Nout was not the
goddess of the sky or the heavenly vault as we think of it today.
She represented that part of the sky that was not illuminated by the
sun.She was the symbol of celestial night. She was the goddess Night...;
her name has not changed to any extent over the thousands of years that
followed as can be seen from the hieroglyph below spelt Nouyt.
